I am not computer friendly, all I am trying to find out do I need a visa to go to Spain fort 150 days

Hi Dan,
Thank you for your comment - I would suggest you contact your local IRCC for information on Visa requirements -

Doing a quick Google search using the question - Do I need a travel Visa for Spain - this is what came up:
Canadian citizens using Canadian passports do not require a visa to enter Spain for tourism or business stays under ninety (90) days. Non-Canadians must make an appointment directly with the appropriate embassy or consulate and attend the IN PERSON interview and fingerprinting.
Hope this helps,
Sabrina, Open Government

This is a very useful service. However, there have been no updates since July 21. Is Global Affairs planning to update, or indeed continue with this service?

Hi Barry,
Thank you for your feedback. I have sent your question over to the data set holder, in the meantime you may want to access their site for the most up to date advisories.

Hello I am having problems accessing the content of this dataset.

It seems that this dataset includes the country's name and a few other info but it does not include any information about Exit/Entry requirements, Health, Law & Culture.

Can you please tell me where I can get this information?

Thank you very much.

Hi Razvan, thank you for your comment.

In order to access the specific sections of a countries travel advice, you need to modify the url with the ISO code of the country you request.

For the United States

For Italy

Notice the US and IT codes before the ".json" this is what you have to change in the url. A list of complete ISO codes can be found here:

Use the ones under "Alpha-2".

I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your help, that was very clear.

One last question. To what extent I am allowed to use this data ? I have a mobile application and I'd like to display this information. Is the data under a specific license?

Thanks again,

Razvan G

Have a question regarding the JSON travel advisory feed. Looking at the dates in the JSON file, there seems to be no new data since October 2016. Looks like October 7th is the date of the last update on record. I'm assuming here that the dates in the file correspond to when the given advisory was filed.
Are these open feeds still maintained? If they are, what do the dates in the file represent?

Hi, I looked at the JSON and it seems outdated. For example the United-States data is dated Oct 2016 where as the website show data as of March 2017.

Hi, echoing the request above, would it be possible to include the details regarding regional advisories) in the data provided please? Thanks!

Hi Mike, thanks for your question. We have forwarded your comment to Global Affairs Canada, stay tuned for a response!

Momin, Open Government team.

Mike, the data owner has notified to us that this dataset has been updated with the latest info available as of March 28,2017.

Good day.
Are there any updates on the historical data on Matt's and Michelle's requests, above? I work in the travel industry and I can't find the historical data anywhere on when a travel advisory was changed. I understand that it shows when and what was last updated, but I would like to see what was updated when. Ex: An "Avoid all non-essential travel" advisory is currently in effect for Egypt, but the page shows that it was last updated on December 6, 2016 - but it was the "Health Tab" that was last updated; this gives me no indication of when the advisory changed from "Exercise Normal Security Precautions" or "Exercise a high degree of caution" to "Avoid all / all non-essential travel".
Thank you,
C Regan

We received the following responses from the data holder - Global Affairs Canada:
1. Global Affairs Canada (GAC) does maintain records of historical travel warnings however the public cannot query this information as they do a database. The public can e-mail and request records, this request will be fulfilled by GAC’s consular policy group.
2. Regarding the question on the indications when advisories are changed, GAC notes that they do not record a timestamp (date) linked to risk level changes.
Best wishes,

Very many thanks Karin! Have a very good day!

I will be travelling to Cuba in a few weeks. In the past, there was a venue wherein the traveller could let the government/embassy know of the travel plan: viz arrival, departure, place of temporary residence. That does not appear anywhere I have looked on our government web site. I believe it should be available so, in case of emergency(ies), the applicable embassy could locate and notify the traveller.

Walt, the information you're seeking is still available.
For instance, for any advisories or information on travelling to Cuba, have a look here:

Is it possible to also have the regional advisory details for all countries with a web service?

I am an economics student conducting research. I was curious if you maintained a database or record of historical travel warnings issued for travel abroad, specifically to Mexico (for example, all travel advisories for Mexico from 2000-2015 by month or something like that). If so, would it be possible for me to access this data for my study?

Thank you for your time, I truly appreciate it

Great question, Matt.
I have sent it to the data holder (Global Affairs Canada) for a response. Stay tuned!

Hello, I have a similar data request to Matt's above (i.e. same data, but for a different country and for different ranges of dates). To whom (at either Global Affairs Canada or Open Data Team) may I e-mail or direct this request? Thank you very much for your assistance!

The json tagged buy the country short form doesn't make it easy to parse the data. Can you show me a way to parse the data?

Is there an alternate format for download?

Although the dataset is tagged travel health, it doesn't include the travel health information.

Thank you for your comment. The following response has been posted on behalf of the data owner :

The dataset presents an index that connects to travel advice and advisories data for the listed destinations. The destination data files contain info for the Health tab of each destination that contains travel health information specifically.

We appreciate your question and hope we have answered it clearly.
